CE3 The Next Step in the Chain of Command

Following  the release of the command engine version 2.1.22 our development team started the development of a complete redesigned system, CE3. Some of the new functionality we want to implement requires a full redesign of the current platform, like for instance multiplayer capabilities or the implementation of a strategic AI which could be used to control opposing forces.

In this section we plan to keep the OFP community up to date on the current developments through a periodically updated development diary and showing off some results of the project. Secondly we would like you to contribute to this by adding to our (steadily growing) wish list, or just by giving general feedback. Check out the new "CE3 development"-section in our forums.

Until now only the initial steps for the new project have been set, which resulted in set of main features for CE3:

bullet simulation of warfare between two or more opposing forces on the company/battalion/regiment level using modern/cold war time as basis.
bullet three level command structure force/team/group (e.g. company/platoon/squad).
bullet multiplayer capability, every position in command structure is available to players (private, squad leader, platoon ldr, company ldr)
bullet all other entities/agents are AI controlled, agents communicate with each other to work together (a priori with everyone, in the end probably mostly up/down the command structure).
bullet dynamic: mission designer provides initial state and the global goals for each force. From there, everything evolves without a predetermined sequence.
bullet nevertheless, ability by mission designer to control certain aspects in game, e.g. change the global goals, change supply/reinforcements
bullet toolbox approach, ability by mission designer to use only the modules he wishes, e.g. maybe he does not want to use the force AI, but only team AI and group AI.
bulletfully dynamic campaign. Player can allocate forces to missions, and select the mission objective(s), and how/when (time of day) the mission will be done.
