A Who's Who of The War For Oil

This will build into a list of in game characters who they are and what they do. Where did they come from, what motivates them. Their history and their life. In fact anything that helps to make a character more believable.

Leftenant Cmdr John Caxton

John Caxton is a Special Boat Service officer. Originally an officer in the British Royal Marines he joined the SBS rather than continue the usual RM career path. He has spent the last few years in covert operations. He has been chosen to go to Malden because of his excellent local

Before this his wife and young child were killed by an IRA revenge bombing meant for him after a successful maritime mission to capture an IRA arms shipment from the US. He almost left the job then. He is now barred from working on Ireland as his cover there is blown.

The SBS allowed him to be seconded to an MI6 operation in Kolgistan and the decimated island of Kolgojev. He was with the last FKL fighters when they gave up on Kolgojev to let the Soviets use it as a battle range. He helped get them off the island before Gubba could capture them. Then he trained them to continue the fight in the Kolgistan it self but within a few years the USSR self destructed and Kolgistan became a separate state again for the first time in 130 years.

He visited the new state where many of his old friends were officers in the new Kolgistan military and some politicians (members of the nationalist party then in opposition) The new state was very poor agricultural state with out of date engineering factories that no longer had markets in Russia where consumer goods were being imported from the west produced there by multinationals looking for a cheap educated workforce.

It looked like Kolgistan was going to find it hard to reclaim the decimated island of Kolgojev with its years of military waste and unexploded munitions. Then Oil was discovered off the small Sand Bank. Suddenly everyone wanted to be Kolgojev's new friend. There were a few disputes over the ownership of the island and its oil fields but the island had never been anything but Kolgistani. Caxton was happy for them.

The situation did not last though; the nearby islands of Nogovo, Malden and Everon had laid claim to the Oil when their case had been thrown out by the world court they decided to impose a tax on any ship carrying oil through their waters.

When the first oil tanker through their waters refused to pay the passage fee they impounded it and imprisoned the crew. negotiations failed and the crisis precipitated a resignation of the moderate Kolgistan government who were replaced at the elections by the nationalists.

They invaded the islands of Malden and Everon ostensibly to take back their crew and its oil tanker but it was just a pretext to take over the islands. They announced that the government of the islands was to be tried for war crimes and installed a puppet regime in there place.

The islands are covered by a NATO treaty so now the west is involved and John Caxton must fight his former friends the very men and women he trained but there are many other forces at work the Russians want the Oil and so does a southern neighbor so they can gain more influence at the next OPEC conference.
